The teenage son of TikTok star Mama Tot was “selling narcotics” when he was fatally shot last week in Alabama, police said.
Randon Lee, 18, was selling marijuana to two people at a gas station in Prichard when the incident occurred, Prichard Police Detective Jason Hadaway told reporters.
“There (were) narcotics found in the vehicle whenever the crime scene unit processed the scene,” he said at a news conference Monday.
Police say they have identified two suspects but aren’t publicly naming them as an investigation continues.
“The suspects in the black vehicle got inside the victim’s vehicle,” Hadaway said. “We know there was one shot. The suspect got out of the victim’s vehicle with a handgun and got back into his black vehicle and took off.”
Mama Tot, whose real name is Ophelia Nichols, tearfully announced her son’s death in a TikTok video last week, asking her 7 million followers to share any information they could.
“My son was murdered,” Nichols said. “He was shot, and I have this hatred in my heart that I don’t recognize because I’ve never felt hate for anybody.”
In a new video, Nichols said, “through this process, we’ve found out a lot of stuff we just didn’t know.”
“When your children live out on their own and pay their own bills and they have a good job, it just don’t cross your mind that they would be doing anything to get themselves into trouble,” Nichols said.
“But we’ve been told that the detectives think that marijuana was being dealed, and my son was meeting there and either they tried to rob him or they did rob him, but he was shot.”
